Celtic's Champions League defeat: Martin O'Neill takes responsibility after loss to LASK

Martin O'Neill accepted responsibility after Celtic squandered a four-goal aggregate advantage and lost their Champions League play-off to LASK 5-4 after extra time. It was Celtic's second consecutive failure at this qualifying stage.

O'Neill described the outcome as a major disappointment and acknowledged the sporting, financial and recruitment consequences of missing the league phase. He said the team fell far short, particularly in the second half, and now had to recover quickly.

Captain Callum McGregor said Celtic were passive and appeared afraid to take control of the tie. Former players and managers also pointed to fatigue, fragile duels and LASK's physical superiority, while crediting the Austrian side for completing the comeback.
